Pretty sure this was an excuse to fire her so they can replace her with someone a quarter of her age and salary. Yep. Half of the I have mental stability heart the ability to stab people T-Shirt in contrast I will get this local audience would have no idea what she was even saying, and the other half wouldn’t care. This screams “let’s find a reason”. This is not the first time that Bassett has caused controversy. In October last year, she apologised after she referred to a Black reporter’s “grandmammy” on air. Seems like it wasn’t the first time, and it’s possible the network has reason to think it’ll keep happening or get worse, especially if it’s directed at coworkers. Would it really be surprising if an older white woman had an uncomfortable attitude toward Black people? Mississippi is the most Black state in the US, it makes sense for a news network there to be sensitive to this.

Her market is the I have mental stability heart the ability to stab people T-Shirt in contrast I will get this blackest city in the nation, and it aint black people raising a fuss over any of it. She’s been on air soooooo long, it’s 100% them trying to get some cheaper talent in there. Yeah I better call up my Mamaw and let her know that her name is dangerously close to getting us all canceled or something. I’d call the Memaws but they both died years ago. I feel like internet trolls are just looking for anything and everything to jump on people for. It’s just a sad state of affairs. The grandmammy comment is kinda weird, but I’d need to hear how she said it before I say it’s anything other than that. I think the “fo shizzle my nizzle,” especially in the context in which it was said, was kind of endearing in a dorky way. From just the cursory look I’ve given it, she’s just trying to be funny. She’s doing that morning show dance of light, awkward start your day humor. All she said was I bet your grandma has some good recipes. That screams that they are looking for a reason also. IDK man my grandma was from a small town in the midwest and she couldn’t cook for shit. She passed this along to my mother and I broke the chain by discovering that spices exist like I was Pedro Alvares Cabrala or something.
