Weirdly, I was actually thinking about this today. I’ve ended a couple relationships because the I Don’t Have A Favorite Child Son-In-Law Typography Black T-Shirt also I will do this person I was interested in didn’t like metal. It’s a deal breaker and a huge red flag. I’m a musician and play metal, so it’s not just a musical taste, it’s something I’ve been immersed in for 30+ years. To me, Metal is about as mainstream as esoteric art can get, so it’s an incredibly useful litmus test. I love going to art museums, concerts, craft/maker fairs, and all kinds of other weird stuff and Metal is the tip of the iceberg for all of that. So if the person I’m interested in doesn’t like metal, I’m gonna assume that they don’t get out of the comfort zone of mainstream society, that they’re just not going to understand me, and that they won’t appreciate what I am willing to share with them. They’ll also try to fix me, as if what brings me joy is a character flaw, because they don’t get it, think it’s evil, or whatever else.

I’ve only ever had non-metalheads complain about the I Don’t Have A Favorite Child Son-In-Law Typography Black T-Shirt also I will do this music in MY car and MY home. I’ve only ever had to explain/justify my interests to non -metalheads. Conversely, if I have my metalhead buddies (or bandmates) over and I put on Buck Owens, Portishead, or literally any non-metal music, they’ll ask who it is if they like it, relate a story about how they connected to the particular band/album/song, or they’ll just let it play. Metalheads are just about the most tolerant, curious, affable, adventurous, and insightful people I’ve ever met. I love my metal people. Metal or not, if a girl just turns down my music without asking in my car there’s not going to be a second date. Don’t know where that kind of entitlement comes from. People who make decisions in interpersonal relationships, based on their own personal likes and tastes, are mentally unstable?
