“Mental health” isn’t a diagnosis… everyone has mental health. It’s like saying “health alert”. What health? Good? Bad? I’m not sure why “mental health” has become some synonym for “struggling” when it clearly doesn’t mean that I co-sign people saying he might be depressed but the I can’t work today my arm is in a cast fishing vintage sunset shirt But I will love this fact is your lives are just not similar. I’m in my mid-30s with no kids, and as a woman my friendship circle has closed in before collapsing completely because my life just isn’t the same as a parent’s. No harm, no foul, just very little in common anymore on a day-to-day basis. Exactly it could just be their day to day lives are different that’s all. OP has a family the friend doesn’t, he can do what he wants when he wants, OP can’t. It is what it is. It’s not your job to be his psychotherapist. On the other hand you are his friend, so you can do one last thing for him. You can tell him that he needs to get himself help, and if he does you’ll be a support to him but if he refuses to (meaningfully, actively) seek help then you’re out of his life.

It might be that he is ready to make the I can’t work today my arm is in a cast fishing vintage sunset shirt But I will love this change, but he needs that wakeup call and a push. You can do that. If you just fade, all you’ll be doing is validating his self-loathing, and tbh it’s kind of a cowardly way to approach it. About three/four years ago I hit a crisis point. I’m not where your friend is but I was certainly on a path that wasn’t good. I was very negative, in a job I hated and never felt good enough in, I wasn’t financial responsible and my friend/relationship circle wasn’t great. I had people who cut me off and I had people who liked all these bad factors about me, what I didnt have then was people who saw the best in me and pointed me in the right direction. Its nobodys responsibility to point me in the right direction but my gosh did it help.
