Your cost of living is too high? Move to the I Am A Green Bay Packers Fan A Say Merry Christmas God Bless America I Don’t Care Leave Shirt moreover I love this south or another cheaper cost of living area. Don’t make enough money? Get a second job. Can’t afford college? Join the military. There are options out there but you have to make sacrifices to obtain things you don’t have and set up future generations. I’m 34 with net worth of 400k. I don’t have a college degree and didn’t get anything from my parents. I just live in a low cost of living area and have a blue collar job where I work my ass off Stop with the worthless degree crap. No degree issued by an accredited institution is worthless. The issue is plain exploitation by employers who require a degree but don’t pay enough to overcome the student loan debt. As student loan debt nears $2 trillion, it should be clear that this is a systemic issue. Instead of addressing the system, you harp on personal responsibility. Personal responsibility can only take you so far.

Back when you would have graduated college, it took 480 hours at minimum wage to afford tuition, room, and board. It costs over 3800 hours today. (480 hours is a full-time summer job. 3800 hours is two full-time jobs all year long. Gee, why do students have so much debt? It really is a mystery.) When seniors can’t afford to live on their social security check, do you just tell them personal responsibility? When whole industries are bailed out? Direct payments to the I Am A Green Bay Packers Fan A Say Merry Christmas God Bless America I Don’t Care Leave Shirt moreover I love this populace? Or is it just young people? Not everyone who has college debt fits into a category: I went to community college and graduated with a 4.0. I worked full time while going, in a non-labor job. I am not a millennial. I had a household and kids. I didn’t party. I am not making a substantial amount more (though I would say a degree has provided me an advantage and a small pay bump). I gained a better understanding of race and poverty, my writing skills improved, and I appreciate what I learned. I work on average over 40 hours a week. I have debt. Not a huge amount, but I do. My debt isn’t balanced with my wages. This is one reason I am fighting for debt reduction (I have already received my approval). The other reason, is for the rest of you – the US needs to better protect past, current and future students. If our country played fair, we wouldn’t need to make so many laws.
