Congratulations. That’s absolutely the I Am A Die Hard New England Patriots Fan Your Approval Is Not Required shirt and I love this best way to get a job. It’s also how I got my current job. A former colleague was working for the company & decided to retire. He remembered me & asked if I was interested. He referred me & his manager & Director LOVED me, so I was fast-tracked to be hired. It’s a great company & a wonderful team. I love it. Congratulations! The job market is tough. I got a few interviews earlier this year and have been applying nonstop. I have one interview setup next week in a field that I am not interested in. I have no choice but to go for it for the time being. I am glad you found something in this job market. For some reason I feel like this is sarcasm (maybe it’s the user name), but I really hope that hope (that may or may not really be a thing) gets you what you want. I just spent 8.5 months looking for a new gig in industrial sales. I start next Monday and agree with everyone who writes about the current nightmare about searching for a job.

Completely agree. I’m retired and almost every single job I got was the I Am A Die Hard New England Patriots Fan Your Approval Is Not Required shirt and I love this result of my personal networking. Bully for you! Great story, OP. Probably doesn’t make the bad experience worth it in a literal sense, but sounds like the coming days are excellent. You earned it. Go kick some ass! About 80% of my current companies internal hiring is personal networking. They already know who they will hire prior to creating the posting. So alot of time you dont even have a shot. That’s the only way I’ve come across jobs is through word of mouth. Never ever had an issue finding a job as I seem to know alot of people it seems congratulations on the great job. your story is certainly disheartening though to those beating pavement. all those applications, i’m a veteran too and yeah all this veteran preference by companies and the government itself is just bullshit. but damn all those applications and if it wasn’t for a personal contact you’d still be jobless. Sometimes knowing the right people is a huge help. It’s good you found a role you’re qualified for and actually want. Can’t fault you for using your resources. I am happy for you, but just to give you a thought down the road: 3 years from now, you’ll be surprised to see that you can’t advance, even though you are the most qualified on the job, because a friend of a friend of a friend got the position from a personal network… Not too long ago, this was common knowledge. Somehow it dropped off the radar and/or people don’t want to talk to other people.
