I am white and have three white children and three brown children. Australia has a decent amount of racists sadly. I don’t understand why. The behaviour any of us ignore is behaviour we tacitly accept. This is not just a fight for those who are wronged but all of us who want to live in a better society. I’ll be over here getting mad but being too polite to say anything to people who put their feet on seats of public transport. You can report these things pretty easily these days. Most stores have an online feedback form that you can fill out and explain what happened. I logged an official complaint when this crusty old bitch accused me of stealing a $2 mother’s day card at the How ’bout them cowboys shirt Besides,I will do this self serve checkout. I bought two and she flat out thought she’d busted me only scanning one, luckily I printed the receipt that I was only too happy to show her. If I can report that and get her spoken to by her manager, you can damn well report it through those channels if she’s too intimidated to do it in person. I’m sorry you’ve had to see this. It’s not the Australia I want. Australia will be a better place in about 30 years when that generation starts to die off, it all takes time though. As adults we can simply let go and walk away from those kinds of ideologies as long as we’re educated enough to recognise them in ourselves, others and our elected officials.

i cannot imagine target would be ok with this. This seems like a case where talking to the How ’bout them cowboys shirt Besides,I will do this manager is justified. While this happens and is completely non excusable, Australia is objectively one of the least racists countries in the world. Have your friend ask Uyghurs in China and anyone who’s not part of the Brahmin caste in India what their daily experience is like. Australia has its share of rotten apples but it is improving by all accounts, especially in metros where kids grow up with diversity at the doorstep. Your white saviour complex is a tad misguided, in my opinion. It’s bullcrap to paint all Australians with a racist brush. “If you compare us to authoritarian police states, we aren’t as bad” is a dictionary definition of lowering the bar. Not to mention pretty dismissive of the every day experiences of people who actually experience it, day in day out.
