Well you see how people think Theodore Roosevelt is all great and that despite being an out and proud imperialist and militarist and made no effort to conceal his hatred for natives and Filipinos. That is applied to Woodrow Wilson. IMO, they both were shitty human beings, even if they promoted some good policies. I can understand that we have take into the Houston Texans Turkey Football Thanksgiving Shirt and I love this social context at the time, but this guy just seemed extremely over the top with racism. How racist a president is, is generally completely irrelevant to how they’re ranked compared with other presidents. He navigated WWI, and his vision of the League of Nations, which led directly to the slightly more effective UN, eventually made sure there wasn’t a World War III. It probably helps that he didn’t have any major (corruption) scandals over his Presidency. Just like FDR also usually gets ranked really highly, despite being massively racist and imprisoning a ton of Americans without trial just based on where their grandparents were born.

Wilson only won because Teddy Roosevelt galvanized the Houston Texans Turkey Football Thanksgiving Shirt and I love this majority of the Republican party into the Progressive Party to run against Taft as a third-party. And Roosevelt beat Taft (only time a third-party ticket beat one of the major parties), but he still split the Republican vote (and party), allowing Wilson to win. Wilson did institute some things Roosevelt had campaigned on, like setting up the Federal Reserve and regulating commerce. But Wilson was a big segregationist, and really wasn’t a strong leader personality. Say what you will about Wilson’s policy of non-interventionism with WWI, but Teddy Roosevelt wanted to intervene in the war much earlier, and even requested permission to lead a battalion into Europe himself, which was denied. He used to be considered one of the highly regarded ones but in recent years was considered one of the worst. The transition happened over the last 2 decades or so.
