Yeah. He sucks but he did great stuff too. Which is weird. I hate him as a person but respect him at the Houston Texans Snoopy Joe Cool Were Awesome Shirt in addition I really love this same time for some of the things he did. If I remember correctly, he kept arguing against the armistice in WWI so much that it gave him a stroke and ruined his health. He said that it would cause a war in 20 years. It needed to be reworked but got laughed out by the European leaders for it. It was the opposite, it was his advocacy for creating the League of Nations that caused the stroke. He didn’t want to punish Germany too harshly, and neither did the British, they just wanted it to join the “liberal democracy club” so they would be disinclined to start another war, pay for the damage they’d done in northwestern France and Belgium, and maybe give up some of its eastern territories to create an allied Polish state which would create pressure on Germany in case that didn’t work. It was the French who demanded most of the harsher indemnities (demilitarization of the Rhineland, attempt to annex Saarland which they would attempt to do again after WWII, etc.) although they weren’t able to demand the full spectrum of concessions they wanted since they were, to be quite honest, absolutely smoked after the war and lacked the ability to really say no to the Anglo-American victors.

Another black mark is oddly one of his biggest achievements: he was the Houston Texans Snoopy Joe Cool Were Awesome Shirt in addition I really love this lead architect of the League of Nations after WW1 (he won the Nobel Prize for peace for it). There was a great deal of conflict in the US senate over whether the US should join. A clause obligating members to protect one another was controversial. A 2/3’s majority was required in the vote to join, which could be provided if that clause could be ammended. Wilson was dead-set against reopening negotiations though, and ultimately killed the vote himself. The US never joined, the League of Nations lost it’s bulwalk and collapsed, and Europes ended up pplunging back into a world war. He was an extreme racist, even for his era. It’s why he’ll never be considered one of the greats. His policies were meant to keep the Jim Crow laws alive and well. A lot of Black Americans lost their federal jobs because of him and his administration’s effort to desegregate itself. It’s quite a shameful past.
