I have a feeling, if it was really a financial hardship, the Houston Texans H-town holding down the south shirt and I love this school would 100% give it to you. Unless it’s a really unreasonable teacher. Still is kinda weird. The state of education is abysmal—teachers having to use artwork to sell to parents as fundraisers for fucking fun events for the kids. Yeah, I’ve heard of private school fundraising auctions where other parents bid against you for your child’s art. All in good fun for well-heeled parents, maybe. The teacher is probably paying for art supplies out of her own pocket. When I was in school they made them pay for the paper they printed our worksheets on. The alternative is bringing in your own supplies and the poor kids having nothing. Both of my parents were teachers for 20+ years each. I’m not at all unaware of the absolute shit that is the us education system.

Teachers should never have to foot the Houston Texans H-town holding down the south shirt and I love this bill for basic classroom essentials, but neither should parents. Obviously our taxes should and could more than cover all of this but the government chooses to not prioritize education. Parents shouldn’t have to pay $3 for a little painted letter that their child made. Make public schools F2P! That painting was already made, the supplies already used, and they put a paywall on bringing it home. Kids are way too young to deal with the unfairness inherent in separating the “haves” from “have nots.” The problem is in administration, not amount we pay. I guarantee a decent accountant motivated to cut out the fat could get every kid a set of 64 crayons, a library on par with public ones, and Supreme P.E outfits. Only problem is we wouldn’t have staff whose job is nothing or office renovations with $3,000 couches. There is an administration problem in US primary and secondary schools, but this isn’t an honest figure. It gets passed around a lot, but the USA is fourth in primary pupil spending and 6th in secondary pupil spending among OECD countries and the spending in some states would be ranked bottom 10. California and New York skew the average spending. Many school districts are very underfunded.
