You could suggest that they hold an art gallery at the school where students can submit pieces of art for sale. The students get a choice, parents aren’t forced to pay to support their children’s achievements, and all (or part of) the money would go towards this fundraiser. Not only would they make more money doing this, they’d also be providing valuable events for students to put on their resumes for college applications. Wana work the system in your favor, tell larger companies/organizations how they can make more money by not fucking you or your family over. “my child made this, and therefore it is my child’s property. Therefore, I will be taking my child’s property and will not be paying a ‘donation’ to receive it.” They titled it as a “donation”, not a purchase. I’m pretty sure you could quote some laws with this. It just sounds wrong. You probably don’t even have to do that. Most likely, if you say you can’t make the donation, you’ll still get the art.

I absolutely love the Horse sassy bad assy and a bit shirt and by the same token and way our PTC handles money. They have a budget and ask for “whatever you can give, we recommend $75.” Is that legal? Is this a public school? Charging for student artwork is insane outside of a fundraising project where people would bid on it but anything created during a normal day should just go home with them.. I cannot imagine being a poor parent where every dollar goes to feed your family and then seeing this absolute bullshit. They should have the class make an impressive collective project and then have all the parents bid on it auction style, would raise more $$.. that would be a lot fairer than trying to purchase your individual child’s work. If it’s not free it should not be part of a child’s free education. I get schools are underfunded and need $$ for extras and in some cases the basics but this is not the way. The costume charge is just mean, let the kids have a day. I’d rather have free fun Halloween than use it to raise $. The school I used to work out would let vendors set up for festivals-charge them a flat fee for a booth and would also vend food at the same festival with parent volunteers so it kinda paid for itself with the outside vendors paying for spots. We had probably 10-15 vendors, sometimes 20 per event. Even if you’re charging $100 a vendor you’re doing ok $$ wise and they also get exposure and sales. Could even add on a mandatory donation for each one of 3-5% of sales go back to school, tax write off for them. Huge win for school. You make $$ of the Festival from businesses not pay for it yourself other than security and organization/insurance verification of vendors.
