Smurfs cartoon in The US didn’t start until 1981. So at least 81. I remember there still being Evil Knievel toys and some fans. Cabbage Patch was super big for a couple years, but it didn’t make the other stuff go away. Those rubber bands in the masks would get caught in your hair and break easily and the vampire teeth would never fit your mouth cut your gums, small ass pumpkin pails for candy with shittly handles that would break. The year my friends and I used pillow cases was a freakin’ changer. Able to hold tons of candy, wouldn’t rip or tear, and we could just sling them over our shoulders as we walked through the neighborhoods. My parents would buy the cheap plastic pails from the 99cents store that were really big and had crappy plastic handles. I feel this movie is a extremely underrated. It was so creepy and scared yhe hell out of me. The sound track was fantastic. Watch this one every year. The scene where he throws the mask to cover the camera is hilarious to me but it took him an obscene amount of takes to get it I keep seeing people argue “no way this is the 1980s.” This is absolutely the 1980s. Those of us who lived back then will recognize these are Ben Cooper Halloween costumes, which were still sold at the time. You’ll see Darth Vader, the Smurfs, He-Man (in the back with dark eyebrows), and the Dukes of Hazard (stars and bars across the chest). This photo was likely taken around Halloween 1982 given the Smurfs and He-Man are present.
