The best thing you can do in that situation are buy staple foods you can easily bring around with you, don’t need refrigeration, and can be added to with other cheap things to give you variety and keep your spirits up. Keep a backpack with what you can carry and make shopping trips every few days to resupply. I don’t think people understand how sustainable this is. They get this idea that they need X or Y amounts of food to survive. Refried beans or really any beans are a solid goto. Tuna too. Hell Tuna is enough calories alone for a meal. Add in a cracker or tortilla? While it isn’t much it can very well be filling. Granola is another good one. It is like $3 for an 11 ounce bag but it is also like 1500 calories. By the time the soup kitchen for the public got their meal there wasnt much left.
