Many (most) of the Hello darkness my old friend Halloween shirt and I will buy this good tech people wonder if they are good enough — imposter syndrome is a very real thing (we’re all just making it up as we go after all). And in general, nobody is really watching over you unless they have something to get from you. Your employer cares for you in as much as you make them money. You are responsible for everything and on some level accountable only to yourself. So go try a bunch of stuff and don’t be afraid to change employers every couple years. Find new friends in whatever city you live in and don’t be afraid to say “I’m not okay” to a trusted person if things are going poorly. Take care of yourself first. if you’re in a junior role nobody expects you to know what’s going on anyway and a certain amount of training overhead is usually assumed. Everyone was a junior at some point Unless you’re hired at a start-up or small company as a junior expected to be a senior. No onboarding, no training, work from day 1.

The biggest thing for me was I had SO much free time and SO much more money. Literally the Hello darkness my old friend Halloween shirt and I will buy this opposite from university. I didn’t. University was just really easy. Roll out of bed, cafeteria, attend some classes, ace the tests, party — easy. Although this guy is getting downvoted, I completely agree. There was no way I was dedicating 40 hours a week to studies in college (I did most of my grinding and projects during breaks). I had a lot of free time in college as a consequence. Now, I dedicate more time to work and I also feel like work commutes are generally worse than college commutes. Overall, I feel like I have less time with a job. Much less stress though IMO, but that’s probably job-dependent. Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. Life was much more readily integrated with school in college. I lived on or near campus all 4 years, could chill at work of in the library between classes, and had a dynamic network of friends who were always around. I have to make way more life sacrifices for work than I ever did for school.
