You just transported me back to when my nephew was 4mths old, he was asleep, he had gotten in a weird position sleeping bum up in the air, (even though he was placed on his back, he be found in this position at some point), and we heard what was the most gurgling rumble of sputtering butt burps from him, and we look over, his nappied bum in the air, and a smile on his face…. My best friend’s first son would flop back into her arms after nursing, drooling and grinning, like he just had a hit of heroin.

My toddler gets ‘coo coo bird’ when she’s sleepy just before bed. In the first couple of days it’s before the milk ‘comes in’ and it’s colostrum it’s really thick and yellow and there is only a tiny amount per feed. 3-5 days the milk comes in and the volume they drink increases significantly It’s the size of a grape at birth because they’ve never had to stretch the stomach before (all nutrients taken in via umbilical cord, or via tiny sips of amniotic fluid) but within the first week – after stretching out from their first week of feeds – it’s closer to bottle-capacity; though it can still be a little while before they can get down a whole 4oz bottle in one go. Ah I see! Okay. So the stomach can stretch, especially as they keep growing. I forgot stomachs can do that! Lol The first time my son was milk drunk was exactly like this:) (My husband and I had the best 2 hours of sleep!!)
