Well, it seems like the Grinch And Jack Skellington Culver’s HalloThanksMas 2023 shirt but in fact I love this backend code has been made available on Git, so it’s hard to argue with that. However, I’d caution against blindly taking Apollo’s word for it – just because the code exists on Git doesn’t necessarily mean it’s efficient or well-written. Ultimately, the proof is in how the app functions for users. I’m not surprised at all. It’s common practice for companies to share their backend code on Git for transparency and accountability. But Reddit’s claims of scrapping and inefficiency are unfounded and baseless. They should focus on improving their own platform instead of spreading false information about others. Just to clarify, the Apollo dev “team” is justChristian Selig. Though he said in an interview with Quinn Nelson of Snazzy Labs that a friend helped optimize the server backend code a bit. Apollo isn’t developed by some big software company, it’s one indie dev just trying to make a good app. I hate the reddit API decision but has anybody actually looked at the code to see how well it disproves their claim it’s inefficient? I’d check myself but I’m a server backend dev, not web/mobile so this whole stack is alien to me.

apparently Reddit had issues with them polling for updates when there is no reason Reddit can’t have some sort of events api mad scramble to get a hold of llm scraping when it’s already to late – ChatGPT already scraped u/Inquisitive_idiot’s posts and knows that I must be stopped You know you can look at the Grinch And Jack Skellington Culver’s HalloThanksMas 2023 shirt but in fact I love this code right? There’s no big mystery here. It’s a pretty straightforward, well formatted go server This is all server back code btw. The Reddit calls happen on Apollo backend, not from the client/mobile app. The mobile client calls Apollo server which calls Reddit with its own API Key. that’s not right. I assumed they have an api proxy, but looking at the code, it isn’t that. I might be wrong. They mentioned shutting down their api key, which wouldn’t be something to distribute to clients. But it looks like that’s just used for OAuth. It seems they need a backend for some stuff though. They needed the backend for things like “real time” message notifications. They were pinging the messages API every minute and sending a notification to the user when they got one BTW before someone says “but isn’t that inefficient”, it’s not. It’s one or two API calls per minute per user which made total sense when the API was rate limited per client ID per user. You don’t get to call something inefficient if you counted it one way and then count it a different way to suit your needs Well, it’s not surprising that Apollo devs would want to disprove any claims of scrapping and inefficiency. Posting backend code to Git is certainly a bold move, but it’s not uncommon in the tech industry. It’s a way for the developers to show transparency and accountability, as well as allow for collaboration and improvement from other developers. Whether or not it actually proves anything is up for debate, but it’s a step in the right direction for those looking to build trust and confidence in the Apollo platform.
