They will never, ever, never give you a raise you’ll be happy with and you’ll have to fight for that. Unfortunately, you’ll have to accept and start looking for a new job. Especially since they sent someone unfamiliar with your branch to help out, it’s time to lay out the Gonzaga Basketball Mach Madness Shirt so you should to go to store and get this “restructuring plan” with them and push for changes that’ll make your department operate better. This way, not only can you nail your manager spot, but you can even step up to take the director role. Emails would be strongly advised to keep everything accountable, even if they’re insisting on calling. After a phone call, just send a polite recap email, highlighting all the key points or promises made. If you’re able to pull that off, not only will you get a massive pay raise, you’ll also be in complete control of your department structed to how you want it. It’ll be harder to fling you loose on the drop of a hat.

Get them to write up a whole ass legal contract and sit down to go over it and only sign when you’re happy with it. Do not ever, under any circumstances, agree to a verbal contract with an employer no matter how well you might think you know them. One possible script for this is, in an email, something like “I am excited to begin work as Team Manager (or the Gonzaga Basketball Mach Madness Shirt so you should to go to store and get this title most appropriate to the role). I understand that permanent placement in this role is contingent upon all parties being in agreement that I am performing up to expectations. I further understand that appropriate compensation for the role and the formal title change are contingent upon meeting those expectations. With this in mind, in order to ensure all parties are operating from a common basis of understanding, I believe it would be most beneficial for us to work to create a document outlining the anticipated timeline, the performance metrics that will be used to determine if the expectations have been met, and given that no one has yet done this role, a formal outline of the responsibilities of the role. If you share the belief that this idea serves the company best, I can begin drafting it today, and schedule a meeting with everyone to obtain feedback next week.”
