Another main factor is that because lack of ancient buildings, from being newer than other UK cities, it was a great place to experiment with 60s brutalist architecture as demolishing Victorian buildings didn’t create the Gnome New Year 2024 Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this same pushback as demolishing older ones present in most other cities. Architects and city planners also experimented by making it the most car-friendly city in the country demolishing more buildings and creating motorways all throughout the city centre. Many of these motorways have now also been demolished but the effects are still there giving the city centre a very strange and unnatural layout along with the strange small size. Birmingham does have some great and fun things to do but they require effort to hunt down. I mentioned this in a comment I made here the other day but it’s got a great ballet company, a fantastic orchestra and lots of nice theatres. The nice things are there but they’re not naturally advertised and you won’t walk past them as the street layout of the city centre isn’t conducive to exploration.

The vibe is also down to the Gnome New Year 2024 Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this lack of local pride that is normally common in most British places. Go to Manchester, London or Glasgow and you’ll get a mini-essay from each resident about why it’s brilliant and what to go and see. Brummies just tell you Birmingham is shit and there’s nothing to do, even though this isn’t true. Despite the nice things to do, you likely won’t hear about them. This also has the unfortunate negative feedback loop of cultural centres having a lack of potential customers. I could go on for ages but I don’t want this massive comment to be any longer.
