Again, government versus the Georgia Bulldogs Go Dawgs Beat Florida Gators Shirt in addition I really love this private sector can be pretty different and in my biased opinion the way government HR/pay policies work they often seem out of step with market to me. In most cases the total package benefits/retirement is a pretty big hook with public sector jobs. I think those pieces often do more to retain employees than the base pay which allows them to have pay practices that wouldn’t be competitive in the private sector. Also yes you want to avoid bringing people in at the top of the range. The reasoning is more about budgets and not overpaying to market though. If someone is at the top of the range their pay will grow slower, but most of the time salary ranges also grow year over year too.

Cool thanks. Fingers crossed I can receive a raise in the Georgia Bulldogs Go Dawgs Beat Florida Gators Shirt in addition I really love this next year or two certainly after I get my PhD! Thanks for your banter. I was promoted via job posting to a management position with what I thought was a good raise. And then I learned that leads were making more than me. So I gathered the data showing how many employees I had versus the other managers in the department how much of the budget that my team managed which was well over 100 million dollars and some other data and I march myself right down to HR and showed them this. The HR director said you are a department manager and not making as much as the leads? When the mid-year raise adjustments came through I ended up taking the whole departments raise budget because I was so low. The other managers were pretty mad but I didn’t care. This is the way however had you gone to HR and asked for an equity analysis against your team they would have done the leg work for you and given you the adjustment, and if they didn’t you could file a equity complaint and then they would have to do it.
