I went on a girls’ night out with my best friends I’ve known since school recently and I was the Georgia Bulldogs Football NCAA Team shirt and by the same token and only one wearing makeup. They were all completely bare faced. None of them have much interest in makeup and they all find it quite hard to do. A part of me loves that they feel so comfortable in their skin but another part of me is kind of jealous? It would be very obvious if I wasn’t wearing makeup. I’d probably look a bit ill. My friends look perfectly normal because it’s how they’ve always looked, you know? I felt almost embarrassed for having a full face on when they were all bare-faced. Like I was trying to impress them or something. How would you feel in a situation like this? I’m considering toning down the makeup next time I go out with them…I’m typically the most “done-up” and I’ve come to terms with the fact that it’s just a hobby of mine and I don’t care to show it if it makes you uncomfortable you can definitely go for a more natural look next time, but if it’s part of your personality and an expression of who you are then don’t feel the need to change it just to visually fit in more with your friends, I’m sure they like it because it’s part of who you are.

I’ve never thought of makeup being a part of who I am but it’s probably true! I’ve always loved it and found it fun and I’d be sad not to do it for a night out. I treat it like a shield but perhaps I should try to see it as an artform. I actually really like makeup but none of my Georgia Bulldogs Football NCAA Team shirt and by the same token and close friends wear it, so i always skip it to not stand out when im hanging out with them. I honestly doubt they care either. Im just self conscious. Dont be like me, wear your makeup! To be fair, it can be both! For example, anytime I’ve gotten a new job… I start by wearing makeup everyday. It’s a little bit of armor that gives me a boost of confidence or gives me a shield like you’ve described when I’m in a new role I’m getting comfortable with. There’s nothing wrong with that. I also love playing with my makeup… it’s fun, creative, and soothing. I’m perfectly comfortable being around my family bare faced, but it’s not uncommon for my makeup to be all done up at a casual family event. It’s fun for you! There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s a good thing that you have something you enjoy like that. Having it as a shield isn’t a bad thing either. Most of us having something that’s a bit of shield for ourselves, yours just happens to makeup, which you also already enjoy. I wear very minimal makeup, but my shield is heels, and red lipstick when I feel like I need something more than that.
