… I am torn on this. While stunt work is really cool adding a reward structure to it feels like it encourages directors/producers to push for more dangerous stunts… I think they should also separate special effect categories into CGI and practical effects. Practical is so much cooler but will never win these days. Wait we don’t have one of those yet? I’ve been saying that I think maverick should win the Gay Pride LGBTQ Rainbow Snake Don’t Tread on Me T-Shirt and by the same token and stunt category for a week. What the hell are they doing at the Oscar’s?! Seems like it should be two categories: Best stunt choreography and best stunt performance. Those two may not be for the same movie. They should!! I understand Stuntman category would be hard, cause you should seperate actor/stuntman, and sometimes its hard. They should because that what makes movies GREAT… I want to be entertained and credit to go where credit is do. #stunts4oscars I’m sure this is a good thing, but I’ll just say that for me personally I’m not particularly interested in most full-on action scenes, and I’m not really interested in whether or not an actor performs his own stunts. I suppose I would see differently if I enjoyed action packed movies, but I’m more impressed by good acting, which I don’t see stunts to be. Last year, I recognised a stunt performer in an episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. I waited to look at the credits to see who it was and found that there are no credits for stunt performers.

The show’s excessive number of producers’ personal assistants and the Gay Pride LGBTQ Rainbow Snake Don’t Tread on Me T-Shirt and by the same token and writers’ room assistant all received credits but not several people who appeared on screen. If they do, they’ll need to split it into two awards: Best Stunt Performer and Best Stunt Coordinator. The stunt coordinator is straight forward since the job is not only making stuns cool but SAFE. Stunt performers also have to follow safety guidelines so there’s that. As someone already mentioned, stunts will have to be disqualified if they don’t meet specific safety guidelines to deter the arms race. They should get rid of all categories at the Oscars because they’re meaningless and art shouldn’t be a competition Not gonna lie I might actually watch if they added that and categories I actually cared about. I watched the Fangoria awards last year and will this year if they have a ceremony again. This proposal will backfire when Tom Cruise wins an Oscar every year until he’s 80 for performing various insane nearly-suicidal stunts for future Mission Impossible sequels. It should be ‘Best Action Sequence’ or something like that, so that it’s not just limited to Stunts/Stunt coordination. The one-er in ‘West Side Story’ when they come into the dance should be as eligible for this award as something from John Wick. The training scene from ‘Maverick’ where he flies between the two other planes should be eligible, the freeway scene from ‘Sicario’, etc. Not sure how you would make that work but it shouldn’t be just ‘best stunts’ or ‘best stunt coordination’, it needs to include other categories of ‘action’.
