My late dad did that once with me. “If you don’t finish it I will spank you.” (It was actually a beating but that was the Gary Payton II T-Shirt moreover I love this term he used.) I was already full but I continued until I ended up sick all over his feet. He cleaned up and told me not to tell mom. I told mom the moment she got home. And had an entertaining evening while eating my favorite snack. Cold orange slices. Still my favorite 40 yrs later. There was running, girly screams from my dad and chanclas flying around and hitting with accuracy. There was a lot of Spanish cursing going on about a particular ignorant pendejo gringo. My kid is 8 and I taught him to eat until his belly was happy. He was never forced to eat more than he wanted, and he does a pretty good job at self-regulating. I don’t restrict foods; nothing is bad or unhealthy, it just gives us different amounts of energy. Sometimes he has a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch before dinner and I couldn’t care less because he then eats a balanced plate. I want my son to have a healthy relationship with food so we’re talking about it in a healthy, positive way.

Gary Payton II T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

I was told to finish my dinner and often ate more than was comfortable because of it. I had to radically change my view of food as an adult and made sure to teach my son different habits. This kind of behavior is really common with children of depression era parents. Don’t waste food, there’s starving kids who would love to eat that. As a child I was given a full plate, cajoled/shamed into eating everything on my plate, made to sit at the Gary Payton II T-Shirt moreover I love this table after everyone else finished. Is it any wonder I’ve struggled with my weight my whole life? Cos your parents love you and want to make sure you’ve eaten enough to keep your energy up and have some spare for growing. We can’t sever them from sweets because if they play with friends, their family has sweets. Go to school? Teacher has treats. Clubs? Sports? Extracurriculars? There are snacks and sweets EVERYWHERE.
