I’d have to agree. You don’t get half a can of beans topped with sugary tomato sauce. They’re also a price that’s acceptable. The tin is lined in a layer of plastic that should not be heated, otherwise it can come off the can and be present in the beans… always put your beans into a saucepan or microwaveable container before cooking! The beans are cooked in the can at the factory, so while you shouldn’t cook them in the can, that’s not the reason. The flavour profile of tomato is sweet – you just think it’s savoury because big vegetable try to make you forget it’s a fruit all the time. The difference is in the degree of sweetness. US everything is far more artificially sweetened than UK stuff is. I was always Heinz but when I had Branson I realised they were nicer but I’ve noticed lately that Branson beans have a burnt taste to them so I’m going back to Heinz. I tend to go to the supermarket brand, I didn’t like Branston beans when I first tried them. Most of the supermarket beans have been able to replicate the classic heinz flavour in my experience.
