If they do require essays, depending on the Everyone in America Parties on My birthday 4th Of July shirt besides I will buy this program/school you’re applying to, your admissions essay can give you up to a 10% boost to your average, ie a student with a 75 average can be evaluated as a student with an 85 average if they have an amazing essay. And it can go the other way, as well. A student who writes an awful essay can be rejected, even with a fantastic average, because they’re demonstrating a lack of effort. It also affects scholarships the school may offer. A student who blows them away with their essay and seems committed to success may be offered a scholarship without even applying for one, if they would have been accepted without the essay. I will note, the lower ranked a school is, the less it matters. A student with an 85 average applying to a school with a 65 minimum average is almost certainly going to be accepted and they likely won’t even read the essay. But the highly competitive schools, where they’re looking at thousands of students with 85+ averages, put a lot more weight on the non-GPA parts of the application. Combined with the complete lack of any kind of standardization of High Schools, college essays are becoming the primary factor considered in college admission decisions.

This leapt out at me. Why does he think that university applications aren’t real life? What kind of weird, entitled bullshit is he thinking?! People always tell kids (/people under 18) that “real life” is when you’re an adult. “just wait until you’re out in the Everyone in America Parties on My birthday 4th Of July shirt besides I will buy this real world” etc. So yeah, he probably does think that he’s not in real life yet. Translation: I sweet talked my high school GF into doing my homework and papers and then I dumped her for fun times in college with other girls. She’s big mad and going to out me to my school, can I sue her? I never understood paying for this kind of thing because even if you pay what’s stopping the person from blackmailing you at any given time. They are already willing to sidestep rules, and do the work so adding the crime of blackmail doesn’t seem like it is that much more of a step if it ends up being more lucrative.
