Ugh, when I was doing my masters I had a classmate offer to pay me to do homework for them. I rejected it cause 1. it was pretty long, 2. I was not sure I even had stuff right, 3. Fuck them, specially cause he was a public servant. Oh the Husband Daddy Protector Trucker BestFriend Usa Flag shirt and I love this memories- I had a nice little side business writing college papers for people at my dorm. I had tested out of comp I and II with a top AP score, and it started with me helping my roommate figure out what a thesis was. I would help anyone for free if they just asked ahead of time, but word got around and people started coming to me the night before due dates, freaking out about needing a passing grade, etc. I required at least a rough draft or outline, and a previous paper to get a sense of their style and writing level. I wasn’t about to get caught by writing an A paper for a typically C student! And they had to sit with me while I went over it so that maybe they learned something. I did it for money because why not? This went on for about 3 semesters until there weren’t as many procrastinators with money to burn. Most of the people who paid once never paid again, they would just ask me ahead of time to help edit/revise, or even develop an outline they could work off of (sooooo many undiagnosed neurotypical individuals now that I think about it). By then I was “paid” in car rides and lunches and snacks from the vending machines. Years later I was waiting to catch the bus in the middle of a nasty storm, so I could get to a fax machine with time sensitive documents, and a guy that I had helped a few times saw me, turned around, and was like “get in the car!” Then drove me to 3 places. So I definitely believe that you can do good and get good karma AND get paid 🙂

In college I wrote a paper for my weed dealer in exchange for free product. It wouldn’t have been smart on my end to blackmail him, because I would’ve been reporting myself too, so a bit of mutually assured destruction can safeguard those types of things. In hindsight it probably wasn’t the Husband Daddy Protector Trucker BestFriend Usa Flag shirt and I love this most morally sound decision, but I was also writing an analysis of Nicolas Cage’s transition into horror comedy for a gen ed course and not something as important as an admissions essay… Well, that’s because you have a developed prefrontal cortex – or, it’s developed enough for you to recognize that things can go sideways with friends, what if this/that happens, etc Just how did you find a way to commit an academic integrity offense before even commencing your undergraduate degree journey?
