I’m with you. I remember being in high school in 08 and it was a common goofy thing to say. And it only helped make Snoop as big as he is that he was so influential in pop culture. When I got to a Navy squadron, there was an E-2 (eventually 4 then 5) that was lesbian, and would without fail ask “why is that gay?” with the most deadpan stares every time someone made this statement. It quickly became apparent she was trying to have us connect the dots that saying “that’s gay” ≠ thing is dumb or bad. I like to think that was the beginning of my slow education of “hey, everyone deserves equal rights and consideration, regardless of anything”. It was indeed a common thing to say. As a kid I didnt even know what it meant. I took it literally. To me, something was gay if it was cheesy or lame. I had no concept of that there were people who were homosexuals.

Prior to this thread I had no idea it was even racist I’m still googling and trying to figure out what’s racist about it can someone please explain. I came from a white high school with maybe four black people so we weren’t exactly aware of what we were doing at times Damn. I had no idea all these years since that song released what nizzle actually meant. These people have had a whole 6hrs to catch up with the latest memo on what you can’t now say without being instantly cancelled. The fact people can be retroactively canceled is one of the scariest modern phenomena. Anyone could get canceled in the future for saying something currently acceptable on twitter. People get so riled up vehemently denouncing something from 10 years ago that they suddenly decided was the evilest thing ever. It’s fucked up Yeah it is. Because you look at any sitcom from a few years ago and they will be making misogynistic, racist, gay and trans jokes that were considered acceptable at the time. I’m not saying they should still be doing that and it’s good that we grow and move on from these things. We progress and evolve but culture accelerates so fast now that it’s not really fair to judge people for what happened years ago or expect them to get everything 100% ‘right’ all the time. I think it should come down to the attitude of the person now. If they apologise and regret it then fine. If they double down then not so good. Most people have things they said or did in the past that they regret now.
