I think it is both a combination of latent racism coupled with alcohol overconsumption. Even overtly racist people tend to keep it a little more low key than greeting a complete stranger Uber/Lyft driver with “wow your a white guy” lol. Living in rural PA I always thought it was pretty bad, then Trump happened and it just got dialed up to 10 and I didn’t realize how much better it had been. And this guy did something I would have an extremely hard time doing. My income relies on a lot of these bigots since a very large number of them in my area are like this. It makes it so very difficult to call them out. That plus the Elf In Various Styles Christmas shirt in addition I really love this number who just flip out when you challenge very particular things and will definitely pull a gun out (I’ve never had a gun pulled out ‘on me’ but I’ve been in a conversation where a gun has been flashed because one of them was getting upset). I’m sorry you’re dealing with that, I can relate. My income relies on Trumpublicans, but they like me and may not shoot me. But I’m in Dallas, so who knows. Stay safe internet stranger friend.

That’s exactly how I feel too. We’ve literally witnessed these horrible people out themselves proudly. What’s even worse is that it wasn’t contained to the Elf In Various Styles Christmas shirt in addition I really love this US. I’m in Ireland and we have the same problem here all too frequently. And it’s not just racism, it’s homophobia, transphobia, sexism, etc. and don’t underestimate the power of Twitter and Facebook. They say, they fight racism, but their reporting systems are discouraging reporting it very much. And even then they barely do anything about it. So these racists can get even more the impression they are not alone or even get the feeling they are a significant group. Definitely. Anyone who is different to you in any way is evil and wrong and must be eliminated from society. It’s so disturbing.
