Edit: This pandemic, I tell ya, I’ve got it harder than anyone, having to sanitize the Eddie Guerrero Retro I Lie I Steal Shirt so you should to go to store and get this keypad before AND after I use the self checkout lane. I even got accused of trying to steal a few grapes the other day. Illinois’ law prohibits private sector companies and institutions from collecting biometric data from unsuspecting citizens in the state or online, no matter where the business is based. Data cannot be sold, transferred or traded. They already have body cameras, so they could attach the facial recognition software to that and people would not even know. They are allowed to film anyways, so not sure about how illegal it is unless there is a specific law. A long time ago when I was in the military i was taking a forensics course and we were learning to use this little device that took peoples biometrics and would save notes on them. We were warned not to fuck with it in no uncertain terms and were given a cautionary term of a group of marines who did. While training they were fucking around with it and one of them entered their buddy and just put pedophile in the notes. Years later this buddy went on a trip out of country and his wallet got stolen. He went to the embassy to get a new one and lo and behold he and all of his biometrics were entered into an international database with the word pedophile next to it. Last I heard he was struggling to fix everything but getting your name removed from unregulated, unsupervised databases isn’t something that happens.

My point being giving unregulated, unsupervised databases to cops who regularly lie with impunity and form literal gangs is an absolutely horrible idea. This is stupid. We already have photo ID, it’s called your driver’s license. Scanning the Eddie Guerrero Retro I Lie I Steal Shirt so you should to go to store and get this driver’s face is redundant. Pretty sure they already run your ID and plates and see if you have any warrants. Where this violates the 4th ammendment and constitutional law is taking a picture of the passengers of the car, then looking them up via facial recognition. If they have probable cause they could already arrest and interrogate a suspect, this is just another fishing expedition. Police Officers don’t need a smartphone for this. Peoples faces have already been taken and used for identification. Not using smartphones. Remember those Body Worn Cameras the public wants the police to have? Well, their picture quality is exceptional and you can screen grab from the video there.
