I’ll say this from someone who went from always lean to dad bod back to rad bod, there’s no way I could’ve gone back to rad bod if I was working 12 hrs/day, multiple jobs, + commute like I used to. Size absolutely has a genetic component, and I’m always amazed at how many people think weight loss is an even playing field for everyone. I work a sedentary job, only exercise occasionally, drink alcohol (not a lot at a time, but pretty regularly), only eat healthily when I feel like it, and generally could be putting in more A LOT more effort. All that, and the Easily Distracted By Goats Vintage Goat Lover Farmer T-Shirt and I love this only time I ever gained any real weight on my small frame was when I had a health condition affecting my hormones (successfully treated thankfully). If I do put on an extra 10-20 lbs I’m not crazy about, I just stare at my running shoes for 5 mins and it goes away. Contrast that with my larger friends who work their asses off to try to lose weight (I’m thinking of three in particular). They all count calories, go to the gym regularly, two run marathons and third does 20 mile hikes weekly. Two work physical jobs, and all have a great handle on nutrition and diet in general. They’ve all lost a little weight here and there, but they’ve generally all stayed ‘plus’ over the years.

I packed on pounds after I got married, and ballooned up to 265 on my 5’10” frame. Got Type II diabetes and was injecting a ton of insulin every day. Went on Intermittent Fast five years ago, lost 40 lbs quite quickly, and now down to 185. Stopped needing insulin four years ago. I no longer worry about what I eat, just when I eat. (I do eat a healthy diet though.) I eat between 4 pm and 10 pm most days.
