The first one I honestly don’t see the Dublin It Up More Clover Less Problems St Patricks Day T-Shirt and I will buy this issue. Then I went to the next image…yeah paying for your child’s artwork is pretty fucked My daughter’s daycare is having the the same thing for her artwork. She’s 2 years old. It’s sad to see her art, along with a few other students, still sitting above the cubbies. It doesn’t feel right. They had something similar at my son’s school. The donations were optional. Kids who were on the lunch program didn’t even get asked for money, and anybody who couldn’t afford it could still participate. I suspect that if you emailed the teacher and said you couldn’t or didn’t want to pay, your child could still wear a costume and get their artwork. I’ve read through too many comments that aren’t pointing out the obvious. Copyright infringement! Your child created this art, and now they have to buy it!? That is absolutely illegal and morally and ethically wrong. I lived in a long term psych hospital for a while, and for occupational therapy we either had to work in the laundry room or we could do arts and crafts.. but they got to keep all our artwork and it became Hospital property for them to sell and we got paid $0.25 an hour (though if we chose to work in the laundry room we got a raise of up to $0.37 an hour.. doing the exact same work and washing the exact same poopy underwear as the “real people”/employees who got $12.00 an hour) My kids school is just like this and it’s extra frustrating when we have to pick and choose which things she can participate in because my husband is out if work and it’s that or gas in the car, etc Pay $5 and you will get a random art project to take home with you. It could be an EPIC or LEGENDARY painting. It might even be the painting your kid made. If not, try opening another loot box!

This just feels awful. I understand needing to raise money but this isn’t the Dublin It Up More Clover Less Problems St Patricks Day T-Shirt and I will buy this way to do it. As others mentioned, what about families struggling financially? You just exclude the child or make the feel less than because of it? Damn. My parents were well enough off but my mom would refuse to pay on principle. And that would also suck. And what if the child loses the $3? What then? I’m a grade school teacher and I have frequent opportunities to buy $20 shirts with our school name. Or for spirit week. Or unity week. I’m like, I work almost ten hour days and grade papers on the weekends and get no extra pay for compulsory events – after school hours, festivals, field trips, running a club outside school hours. We don’t have any half days and are expected to stay until 5:30pm every Tuesday for staff meetings. I had to pay to get into the fall festival I was already working at. The fundraising goes towards our annual teacher bonus…that we only receive if we stay for the following year. Yes, the money that we raise during the current year will not be given to us unless we sign a contract for the following year. Lord knows where that money actually goes during the year. Not to the teachers that’s for sure.
