Many times I was invited to go out for lunch with my boss or co-workers and had to decline because I wouldn’t be able to eat anything at the Derby Dreams Bourbon Streams Shirt in other words I will buy this restaurant they were going to. I had a roommate that ate like this. She had five or six things she would eat, all had to be plainly cooked, no seasoning or “mixed” food as she called it. She would force herself to eat green beans for nutritional purposes (no other vegetables except baked potatoes), by holding her nose while she ate them. Going to a restaurant was a nightmare. She would order five or six things and send them all back. I feel like if you know you’re like this about food, you should avoid restaurant food except things you’re had before or things like fries that are pretty reliable. Sending back a bunch of food is wasteful and rude to the staff.

I’m somewhat like this. I don’t know what you mean by “mixed food” but I think my issue with “combination foods” is something similar. Most foods that contain like multiple different things are tough for me to eat, think hamburgers or salad and stuff like that. I also don’t like it when different foods are on the Derby Dreams Bourbon Streams Shirt in other words I will buy this same plate, or when I eat foods “out of order.” IIRC, it’s because there’s an inherent anxiety to not knowing what you’re about to taste, and for some reason my brain doesn’t want to risk that anxiety when I can just eat “safe” foods that I know I will like. ARFID can be very serious! No treatment is perfect, but CBT is a good treatment option that can be a big help to many people with ARFID. It’s important to treat ARFID for health reasons, as a child or adult who can only eat a very narrow range of foods (for example, macaroni and cheese, toast, and buttered noodles) is not getting the nutrition their body needs to function properly. I’m 30 and I grew up as an extremeley picky eater, I’m much better now, but growing up was extremely tough, and I never could really articulate why I didn’t like certain foods, some are sensory, some are taste related. I’ve had pushback from several family members and partners over the years over it, even though I’ve said many times that negative reinforcement and brow-beating me into trying foods doesn’t work.

Like I said, I’m much better now than I was as a child, but I think finding professional help would be monumental for me. I honestly wish this is something I learned about much earlier in my life, because it’s honestly led to some tough situations growing up. Ah yes, force your likely neurodivergent child to eat things that they can’t physically and/or mentally stand(for a time or maybe forever, who knows, everyone is different) and will likely lead to meltdowns and other issues in the short term, and in the long term, potential food/eating/health issues by sending them to a therapist that will probably tell them stuff along the lines of “it’s all in your head” and other gaslight-y bs. Also, there’s no possible way to “cure” a form of neurodivergence, only treatments.

The comment I was looking for. My son suffers from this, I did too. It was hell growing up not being able to stand textures or certain flavors. My son has this (he has ADHD and autism, which tends to be the Derby Dreams Bourbon Streams Shirt in other words I will buy this case with many who don’t have it). There’s not really anyone here where we live that treats it, even the nutritionist I took him to didn’t really know how to help him. Only suggestion was to send him to an in-patient facility that treated eating disorders, and that was 5 hours away. He wanted no part of that (and I didn’t want to send him away). It’s a major source of frustration for him. He gets really bored with the food he is willing to eat, but he can’t get past the fear of trying something new (though once in an extremely rare while, he will). I believe my daughter has this and I’ve been patient and she’s really opening up to more foods. I feel like if someone had done that with me growing up, then I could have been better…

I’m an adult with ARFID. There is no cure. It’s extremely under diagnosed in children and even moreso in neurodivergent adults. I realise that now, after people have been kind enough to share their stories and explain the Derby Dreams Bourbon Streams Shirt in other words I will buy this whole thing better. Turns out my parents' ways of "fixing" it (yelling, threats, going to bed hungry, sitting at the table staring at cold lima beans until midnight… the usual methods) just made things worse.

If you go undiagnosed as a kid, you get labeled as a picky brat. If your parents won’t accommodate you, or make it actively worse (finish your whole plate or else etc) it can fuck you up for ages. Eating becomes shameful, and something to be hidden from people you know so they don’t realize something is “wrong” with you. Restaurants are stressful places, as you don’t know if they’ll have something you can eat. Going over to friends places or speaking to others about dietary needs becomes hell: to the point you’ll avoid it by claiming to have already eaten, even if you hadn’t. At best they’ll think you’re weird. At worst they’ll think you’re lying or fucking with them, and give you shit for something you can’t control. Family gatherings were the worst for me. Judging eyes and people who wouldn’t understand; No where to hide.

And there’s no fate worse than different from the pack. I’m lucky, I think. My mom didn’t understand but she accommodated me. Now I have a group of friends that are all autistic, who get it. It’s been better. I wish I could have had a diagnosis when I was a kid, something to hold onto other than me being fucked up and wrong somehow; People talking like it’s something chosen. I didn’t realize til the final year of high school. I have this. Has made my life very difficult. I eat only peanut butter, wheat bread, cheese pizza and French fries. That’s it besides occasional fruit. Never ate a vegetable or any meat. Been this way my entire life. Wow, so close to my daughter with ARFID diet! You aren’t alone, thats for dang sure. She has never actually swallowed a piece of meat until recently. Even when we started her on solids she would spit out all meat. She came home recently and wanted to try bacon! Never been so exited to see someone eat half a slice of bacon.
