Everyone doesn’t hunt, but I agree that hunters should be able to kill as many as needed to feed homeless/underprivileged. Unfortunately, there’s a lot more to it. Hunters pay for their guns, their ammunition and their licenses. Many pay thousands of dollars per year for “leased” land with exclusive rights. It’s legal to kill a hog as long as some other season is open (ie squirrel, deer, coon) or year around on private land. At the Deebo T-Shirt But I will love this point of killing the hog, it must be immediately processed which is a lot of work. It must be vacuum sealed or packed in ice for transport (again costly and not practical). Also, no USDA regulations so it can’t just be distributed to shelters Wild hogs diet consists of things in the woods which affects the taste of the meat. Acorns, berries etc give the meat a gamey flavor that many people don’t like. Boar hogs also have a very strong flavor. Personally, we trap them and feed them corn for 6 weeks before processing them to give them better flavor (again, costly and potentially dangerous) but they cannot be transported alive from one point to another. This makes it difficult to provide to big populations in urban areas.

We process several per year for ourselves and many more for friends and family, too. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking of ways to use them to feed the Deebo T-Shirt But I will love this less fortunate, there’s just no practical way under current regulations. It’s very discouraging when G&F flies over and shoots them…leaving them where they lay so I know a lot of people spend time trying to figure a way to make it work. Hogs aren’t just running around the major cities where most people live. Also pretty sure wild boar meat is way tougher and less appetizing than the pigs that are raised on a strict diet solely for their meat. You also aren’t allowed to just go out and shoot whatever you want wherever you want. You have to get a license and make sure guns can even be fired in the city you are in. Now even with all that, most people have no idea how to dress the carcass even if they wanted to get that far
