I am not a plumber, but have a system similar to this in our home. It was explained to me that PEX is for delivering water, copper and other metals are for valves and fixtures that manipulate water. Copper is less susceptible to changes in pressure, so it makes more sense in an interchange like what’s pictured. Copper also has a higher temperature limit of 400F, while PEX tops out at 180F. An important factor when a boiler is involved. My dad’s a plumber and its absolutely fucking absurd how often people delay paying him by months. At any given time he probably has multiple people owing him for jobs he did >3 months prior.

In any other field, you dont avail of a service before you can pay for it, let alone months in advance. Look up someone youtube videos it’s pretty simple. Oh no, I did it myself as well. A plumber was going to charge me $300 (that’s with a $100 discount). I was like screw that. I just did it myself. That’s about what we’d charge. 225 an hour plus parts. And depending on the cartridge you’d be looking at about a $300+ total. But if you’re not confident you can do it properly, please call a professional. I cannot tell you the amount of times we’ve been called to clean up after a DIYer or someone’s “buddy who can do it cheaper.”
