As someone who studied to become a sound engineer, I suggest that you skip the study and just try to find work at a production warehouse or a venue doing grunt work. You’ll have to do it anyways to move up, but this way you won’t start yourself off with a bunch of debt. I’m a venue guy myself (church… woo…) but all my friends on tours and cruise ships started out that way. Spend some time talking with the techs who mix for you, try to learn stuff from them, and offer to work with them to learn. Feel free to DM me too if you have questions about equipment or getting started on the “other side” of the microphone. Production work is super tough to get into but it’s very rewarding! Now that I’ve typed all that out, I just realized you might be talking about the recording side too, which is even harder to get into. But again, a degree won’t get you super far. This industry is relationships relationships relationships, so just make sure you’re making lots of friends!
