I never started. In my 30s now, and I’ve never been drunk even once. Who knows how much money I’ve saved. It also helps that I think drunk people are genuinely a nuisance and annoying to be around. I can’t stand it. Alcohol is 100% not worth it. I’m 36F, I started drinking at 23 (it’s legal where I live at 18, but I was never really interested in it until I was around 23 years old). I started working in bars around the Darius leonard stiff arm American football linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles T-Shirt and I love this same time & my drinking went from periodic to frequent (par for the course if you work in the industry). I was never dependent on alcohol, but I did drink more than the average person for a lot of years & can say with absolute confidence that at its best… it’s an expensive way to have fun (when you could have the same amount of fun without it if you’re with the right people). Important to remember that alcohol is a group 1 carcinogen… along with tobacco, asbestos and radiation. The World Health Organization has stated that virtually no amount of alcohol is safe to consume.

I’ve also been “off the Darius leonard stiff arm American football linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles T-Shirt and I love this sauce” since May, I feel like I look 10 years younger, I’m down ~45lbs, I have the luxury of never being hungover or having “hangxiety”, I sleep better & I genuinely feel like a happier and healthier person overall. Life is very cool sober, and there’s a lot of folks who don’t drink out there who have active and fun social lives. Honestly, know yourself and the risk. Reddit treats alcohol like it’s something that will ruin your life after the smallest drop, which it absolutely CAN, but it’s also a little dramatic at times. It’s not great for your health, obviously. It’s also not the end of the world to drink sometimes in moderation. But if you feel like you have addictive tendencies, or you’re starting to fall into a habit, stop and never look back. You don’t need it, and you’re not missing out on a huge part of life. You don’t have to drink to fit in if you don’t want to. But, it can be nice to have a drink now and again and it can be fun while socialising. You’re not destined to be a lifelong alcoholic if you have a beer every now and again. Having your first drink is not like trying heroin (DON’T), it’s important to be realistic and understand the nuance
