I’d agree. If he walks rn, the Damn Right I Am A LSU Tigers Mascot Fan Win Or Lose shirt Also,I will get this program is boned… he’s got them over a barrel… but since he doesn’t have the new position on his resume, he can’t really expect to get that job somewhere else, so they have him over a barrel. He doesn’t he is the easy play internal but he is at 3 years experience and the floor of the product manager will be 5-7. If he tries to go over a 20% raise now his boss has to go plead his case to a VP probably to get it approved and probably doesn’t want that heat level for a senior contributor role. I have worked in this space for 10 years. Yea it sucks for you as the hiring manager. But unless you have a VP in your corner on the role you aren’t going to override HR at most organizations. Most people aren’t going to bat for that below Director. My guess is they aren’t giving him the full $110k because he’s lacking a few skills that they would expect from a more experienced candidate

There’s a comp range. With a mid point low point and high point. By it’s very definition not everyone gets the Damn Right I Am A LSU Tigers Mascot Fan Win Or Lose shirt Also,I will get this mid point. Sometimes your higher or lower on this range for a multitude of reasons. One such reason is they’re offering a 20% raise already to get into the role. OP’s offer is $11k below the bottom of the comp band. Sure, not everyone can be in the middle of the range starting out, but OP’s promotion wouldn’t even be within the comp range for the new title. This right here. If this org is even remotely fair they should be giving him a midpoint raise to keep in line with equity. Otherwise they are just assholes. You can’t have two people doing the same job making that much apart. No matter experience if two POs are managing a team of 5 people and n products. It doesn’t matter if one PO has 30 years and another has 1 year. Equal pay for equal work. Or they should give the more experienced PO more responsibilities to set them apart and justify the inequity. They’re going to post it externally. If they don’t want the 20% raise, then OP is rolling the dice and should be ready to lose it.
