When I was a kid, my family didn’t expect me to eat a lot. One time I was at my grandma’s house and she told me to only get what I am going to eat because she didn’t want me to waste any food. I ate what she gave me, but I was still hungry. I was a tiny girl back then. Forcing is abuse, encouraging is not. Kids also might not feel hunger at a moment but still need the Dallas Cowboys Win Eagles Yeah Here We Go Shirt but in fact I love this nutrition. They need to be explained why they should eat. Idk if that is true or accurate, it’s just what I am seeing from life experiences. The only time I encourage or insist they eat a bit are for behavior. He will just not eat until he gets over hungry. Then once he’s over hungry he will not eat. It’s meltdown central. So we enforce set eating times. 3 meals and 2 snacks. If he says he’s hungry at a different time he can have fruit or veggies. If he’s not hungry at the set times he can come and go around the time. But I do say, for instance if he wants to watch a show or go outside get play dough out whatever, that he has to eat a couple bites. He tests it every now and then but knows now that if he’s hungry he needs to eat then. I do not make him eat all of his plate, nor do I force him to take a bite of the veggies on his plate. I just always plate them. I model and encourage
