What you’re describing is Golden Age Syndrome, and it’s not new. As long as people have existed, people have privileged the Dai Dai Ames Kansas State Wildcats Guard Fade Away T-Shirt in contrast I will get this past, celebrating their parents’ era. Since at least the time of Plato, people have said that this generation is lost, weak, hopeless, coddled… pick your adjective. It’s like clockwork. Seriously though, just because people have been saying similar sounding things or worrying or warning about similar-ish things… Apply this logic to how people worry about presidents and leaders… you can find endless hyperbolic fretting and warnings about just about any national leader making them sound like the second coming of Satan… Does that mean that we should automatically ignore critiques about societal and culture changes over time ? Of course not. I think most people would agree that the renaissance and the enlightenment were relatively “real” periods of time… I’d also think that most people would agree that great depression and world wars and Chinese civil wars were actual events. Maybe a starker example… the Mongols destroyed more than a few walled cities in a relatively very short amount of time. Also I’d imagine that more than a few of these areas enjoyed a relative amount of peace for at least one generation or two prior to the Mongols killing nearly everyone that exists in that city…

Id also that in some of these cases that some rumors of invasion preceded the Dai Dai Ames Kansas State Wildcats Guard Fade Away T-Shirt in contrast I will get this mongols actually invading… and I’d imagine that sometimes the rumors were taking seriously and sometimes they were ignored. If Ye Olde Oscar the Grouch, that is always worrying and fretting starts fretting about the Mongols…. should we ignore him or not ? I’d suggest trying to first evaluate the actual idea that Oscar the Grouch is bitching about before you evaluate Oscar the Grouch’s track record as a predictor. But notice that we’re just evaluating Oscar the Grouch’s track record at predicting things… and attaching a euphemism to it. We’ve decided that Oscar’s track record sucks…and we’d like him to shut up… so we call it “Oscar the Grouch Syndrome” But please PLEASE notice that we’ve 100% failed to even consider or evaluate the actual idea or thing that Oscar was bitching was about… Again, there was exactly 0% thought or consideration of any actual ideas…. just an evaluation of Oscar ( or “generations of the past” ) One of the benefits if being vegetarian is that there is usually only one or two non-meat items on a typical menu. I see my friends stressing out with 5-page menus while I’m sipping my margarita.
