Yes, but even knowing that it sounds so weird in my ears. I can learn the Cute Baby Yoda I’m not fat I’m Fluffy shirt and I will buy this custom but it’s so hard to erase the cultural programming… Policeman didn’t take it as a term of endearment because he is in a position of authority and calling some one mate is basically saying that they are your equal which a police is definitely not . I wouldn’t call a police officer ‘mate’. But also we aren’t America where they police through force. We have policing by consent – the police are not our superiors. Calling a random woman “darling” is gross and sexist. Don’t do it. I wouldn’t mind being called mate, don’t see the issue in that. But maybe don’t call a police officer that. I think it’s a regional thing. Certainly in the Midlands darling is more neutral than down south. Again it’s context. Ensuring when it’s used it’s neutral. I use love, darling and mate and have never had an issue, but I’m also aware of when not to use it. I personally certainly wouldn’t call a policeman mate unless I was working with him. Especially if they have stopped me and are investigating something. Just feels rude to me. But you have to know and this poor chap was too new to the language to understand that.

Approaching 40 and life is goooood. We just do whatever we want whenever we want. The income saved by not having children has afforded us a ton of opportunities we wouldn’t have had otherwise. That’s kind of on the Cute Baby Yoda I’m not fat I’m Fluffy shirt and I will buy this parents in my mind. My parents weren’t perfect and I at one point held some real animosity against them but even at our worst points I loved them unconditionally and would be there any time they asked. literally everything a person does is “on their parents” on some level, that’s who raises you and teaches you how to be a person. Buuuut after the school years the kid is pretty much their own person and people don’t always do what you’d think they will. Two kids raised by the same people will usually have pretty dramatic differences in their lives…
