Exactly. Another way to think about it is that it is like how on a first date, you are expected to present your best self. This is not “lying” as some of us have thought when starting out on interviews. It is saying, “On my best day, I can be this good/tactful/nice/well dressed.” I agree with this as someone who has only worked low paying jobs. I’m not coming to work for money, if I wanted real money I wouldn’t be in the Costa Rican Aquarius Queen January February Zodiac Birthday T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this non profit sector. Of course, that’s the only reason I want a job in GENERAL but I can make my wage anywhere. I feel like it’s been relatively easy for me to answer. “I researched your company: x, y, and z stood out to me. I’m very interested in X and I know a lot about Y and Z. I did something similar at blah blah blah. Do y’all deal with A, B, or C?” I’ve only ever NOT gotten 1 job after an interview and it was one i was way under qualified for and shouldn’t have even gotten an interview with.

Saying that you only care about money implies you are going to do the Costa Rican Aquarius Queen January February Zodiac Birthday T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this bare minimum to keep your job, and nothing more. I don’t think it implies that, but I would agree with you that many employers might misperceive you as meaning that. Many people are motivated to go above and beyond at work for the hope of being rewarded with a pay raise or bonus. It really doesn’t matter how one intends it to sound, it’s all about how the interviewer is going to interpret it. I really don’t think any interviewer for any position would hear that and think it’s a good thing. It needs to be completely removed from vocabulary for interview purposes. This is wrong. Many, many jobs want people to say they are motivated by making more money. The commonality with all of those jobs though is that they are sales/commission based. I disagree. I am a Sales Manager in a very large, well known tech company. If someone told me they are in an interview because of the money it would be an instant no. Have some tact. Show me you have some soft skills. If you can’t show me those things I am afraid of what you will do in front of my customers. I completely agree. One of my biggest tricks for sales is acting like i don’t give a shit if you buy it or not. I’m literally offering this to you because it will help you in some way. In my experience, only wanting money leads to a more sheisty (sp?) salesman, not one who can really bring in the big bucks, IE, repeat customers.
