With an egoistical view to this; we won‘t and can‘t change this. Actually it only gets worse (poors getting poorer, richs getting richer). The only personal solution to this is generational wealth. I KNOW thats the solution but it‘s not a realistic one, because people in power will never accept this My dad has worked for the same company since he was 17, he’s now 64. He hasn’t been promoted but has moved around tasks, has done everything so could essentially run the place alone, just had the standard 2% here 3% there pay rises. His wage was enough to buy a house, a car and pay all the bills until the crash of 1980 when inflation hit 17.99% , when he had to get a second job and my mum found temp work. Then I came along in ’83 when everything had calmed down so my mum stopped working (as most women did then) and my dad’s wage carried us until I was 1, my little brother 14 and my mum got a part time job. There were bonuses, Christmas parties, children’s clubs, freebies, a turkey at Christmas etc etc but they all slowly went. My fil had his own building company which went bust in 1990 thanks to the mortgage & lending industry crash, at the time my mil had cancer so couldn’t work, the bank manager laughed and gave them the most ridiculous mortgage that had clauses at the end of £20,000 once the term was up. A year before it was up they went to bank to talk about how to pay that as they’d been saving and it was waved as something they would not enforce or endorse. Not all boomers had it good, the ’80s fucked a lot of people over and those people remember how tough it is, luckily

Yeah but I mean, they’re called boomers because they were born in the College park high school alumni block cp shirt But I will love this baby boom that followed WWII. Economic conditions were pretty sweet when you were on the winning side of a war that decimated half of the competing countries. And also killed off a significant portion of the workers from the young generation, which gave another boost to the opportunities available to those that made it. I use to live in Seattle and had to work 3 jobs to be able to pay rent and have a life. Needless to say, I’m back in Tacoma lol 253! My Grandad worked in the engine room on ships for the cunard line. Then settled down to have kids and worked down the local docks, my Nan started working in a factory canteen when the kids grew up. Both retired in their 50’s, own their own home and have been having 2-3 holidays a year. It’s only now at nearly 90 have they began to slow it down and are down to 1 holiday. This is a great time to teach about inflation and cost of living wages. Bread and milk no longer cost 5-10 cents. Bread man and milk man no longer make 25.00 a week.
