I have no idea what prompted it. The conversation was about some recent project or some other team member doing whatever. No one was talking about money. He was just mad. Always ask for money. Always ask for raises. This is capitalism and they’re your competition. My boss (65+) on Monday told 3 of us in the dept that “we should not be too calculative” and “we shouldn’t count the cents” We’re talking about hundreds of dollars here, but he used (he really did) an example of us “receiving 7 cents out of 10, and asking for the balance 3 cents” Leaving the ridiculousness of that aside, is there any reason that we should be cheated out of 3 cents by a multi-million dollar company? I had one of those once who started to complain to me about how he hadn’t had a raise in something like 10 years (I wasn’t paying attention that closely). I did the accounting, and no, he hadn’t had a raise to his base salary which would be a bummer if he wasn’t compensated largely via a bonus structure which netted him over $400,000 a year and would have been ever-so-slightly less if I had a raise eating up those profits. You’re doing the right thing – get out before the boss gets worse in retaliation for your audacity in asking for more money…. the literal reason for having a job.

Fucking price of eggs is still over $3 a dozen where I live. It’s cheaper to go to a fast food place every day than it is to eat a variety of healthy home cooked meals right now.
