In some battles, there were more than 400 deaths from NVA at one time during the VN War…Salute to soldiers of both sides… No. Jer 17.9 The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Who can know it?With due respect, RJ, the bodies appear to be NVA soldiers, not VC. It jives with the time of the battle during the 1968 Tet Offensives 1 &2 when there were substantial efforts by the NVA to back up the main thrusts by local VC units in the South. I just hope more people appreciate the US effort to stop the spread of Communism, however flawed or mismanaged. It was NOT a useless war, all things considered. The freedom loving people of Vietnam, past, present and future, will never forget the sacrifices made by the American people.

The war would have never happened if the United States had elected to help Ho Chi Minh when he asked for it instead of assisting the French colonizers. Ho Chi Minh originally admired the liberal democracy of the US and sought to emulate it, but the US didn’t want to annoy France, so Ho Chi Minh turned to communism to get support. I remember landing at Ben Hoa and watching the air and the odor advancing down the plane from front to back. It was a presence-rather like a greenhouse filled with road kill. That odor and the smell of diesel fuel takes me back. Also; there was the Jungle Rot infection that turned your skin black, and there was Malaria. For newbie’s, taking those horse size anti-malaria pills gave you diarrhea. Around some camps there was the heavy stench of burning feces where the toilet waste was removed and burned. While in camp the drinking water was punishingly bitter because of the chemicals added to prevent diseases.
