I too had an issue on Ko Lanta, it was a bit of a wake up for me. All my own fault, I just got sloppy, it wasn’t the first time I left helmet on the mirror, boxes open, expensive electronics on the bike – I got complacent. Wow. I have been robbed at gunpoint and even that is less threatening than a machete to me. No matter which developing country I go to, I tend to stay where the richest people in that country stay. I don’t understand DNs and expats who want to live amongst people who are on the edge of disaster every day.

I participted even when I lived in the CJ MCLAUGHLIN American professional stock car racing driver T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this USA… in SF I saved money by renting in the latino neighborhood then when that blew up I found a deal in Chinatown. You’re gonna tell me that even the rich areas of the third world are cheaper than Europe / N. America. Maybe, but… people want to save more or work less, what can I say. It’s 2024 so a 1 bed in little Haiti will run you a min of $1500. Maybe an efficiency could be had for 1k. Miami is now beating LA for crazy housing costs. Mate sorry but there is a very big difference between “where the richest people stay” and the people that are on the “edge of disaster”. Only retirees and elite members can afford to run the AC all day. All the DNs have a fan without a timer and some cold towels in the freezer. 😉 I’ve stayed in Lanta as well, and the people there aren’t on the edge of disaster too. 90% of the people are doing just fine. Oh totally. People have so many misconceptions and judgments about places they’ve never been. We live the way we live because we WANT to. DNs aren’t so bright. Why else would they keep asking about Medelin and other places every local would leave with half a chance.
