Don’t even get me started on how academic researchers produce original research, and then have to PAY a scientific journal to take THEIR research and publish it. You would think journals purchase articles from the Christmas Toy Story Buzz Lightyear Woody Aliens Shirt In addition,I will do this scientists, but that’s not so. Academics pay scientific journals so that they will publish an article, and the journal then sells access to the journal to readers world-wide. It’s so fucked. Of course some of the research that the academics generate is used by say, a pharmaceutical company, to create new, widely profitable drugs. The pharmaceutical company takes 100% of the profit, and the academic gets nothing. The economic incentives here are all screwed up. Our socieity should do everything it can to encourage original, groundbreaking research. Instead we rip off the people who do original research while showering those that “take it the last mile”. These are the kind of incentives that encourage brilliant scientists to work for a pharmaceutical company that is altering a drug just a little bit so they have a new patentable formula, rather than working to say, create a new cure for a form of cancer.

Edit: I am biased as hell here, because my wife, her sister, and many of her close friends are PhDs / went through master’s programs in the Christmas Toy Story Buzz Lightyear Woody Aliens Shirt In addition,I will do this realm of biology. Architects – requires a masters degree and exams/licensure like other higher paying positions (lawyer, etc) while making a fraction of the pay. Hours are long, deadlines are constant, and burn out is inevitable. Teachers. As a child growing up, I’d always thought that teachers would be incredibly well paid alongside doctors and lawyers because they were “smart people jobs”. Little did I suspect the pay rate of your job has actually almost nothing to do with the qualifications or difficulty. Social workers. They deal with much of the same shit as doctors, nurses, cops, gov employees, psychiatrists, etc but get paid like half as much. And many of them have masters degrees. It’s ridiculous, society relies on them heavily and they get exploited big time.
