It also helps if you get a useful degree. Most of the Buterfly They Whispered Her Cannot She Whispered I Am The Storm Antiphospholipid Syndrome Awareness T-Shirt it is in the first place but people I know, including myself, who have STEM degrees, had no issues finding work after college. Probably already been said, but some fields get a bleep ton of applications for job postings. I work in IT and I would say on the low end, jobs have 200 applications, others have 2,000. Using a degree requirement can help knock a quarter or half off that number that they need to now filter through. There’s also the fact that there needs to be a door there in the first place. Many companies nowadays say they’re hiring, but really aren’t. Many that are hiring, are doing so while offering paltry salaries/wages, or terrible benefits, or have an absolutely awful culture.

College prof here. A lot of mediocre students make it through school with poor grades (C’s get degrees, right?) but this becomes obvious to employers when the Buterfly They Whispered Her Cannot She Whispered I Am The Storm Antiphospholipid Syndrome Awareness T-Shirt it is in the first place but graduate doesn’t intervew well or doesn’t have anything of substance on the CV. Unfortunately colleges need the mediocre students to fill those seats to keep the lights on. A particular degree may only have 4 slots in the state, but the program is graduating 12 graduates per year (think forensics). Additionally, it takes a lot of red tape to get a degree approved by the appropriate agencies, and it’s really hard to take those degree tracks down once they are up without at least offering a comparable option to students who are already in the program. This results in people getting degrees in fields that are no longer viable. Finally a lot of degrees are really just BS that offers an option to people who have few goals in life but just think a degree with get them somewhere. I personally think there needs to be more transparency when students sign up for a particular college and program about how many job openings are projected and what their likelihood for getting that position really is. (Also they need to understand what it takes to actually meet the requirements for that position.)
