Definitely going to buy it when I can. Damn, good on you OP(s) for having open comments in your promoted post. It is my litmus test of a brand that actually cares about their product. I do like it. I do enjoy it. I don’t love it as I had hoped. Caveat: as of this writing, I have only 21 hours in it… But I do have 21 hours into it, so that’s saying something. It was cheaper than a movie at the theater but I’ve enjoyed it for more hours. Got my money’s worth and more if I stopped playing right now. It’s a nice little game. I may one day reform my view into loving it; but I’m not sure I’ll keep playing long enough for that. There’s good and there’s bad. The bad is mostly (I think) just because it’s not really my kind of game, and it’s tailored to *not* be my kind of game. That being said, I think it’s right up many people’s alley because it’s a pretty “go, go, go!” game but not “twitchy” at the same time.

You can fail but you still progress. As someone who finds failure frustrating, that is a positive, imo. I don’t have to restart every single time I fail. I… fail fairly often. I do like the progress feeling, but I don’t necessarily like the way this one progresses. (see bad section) It’s fast-paced, but not so fast you can’t get anything done. I’m a pretty placid kind of person, so at times it’s a bit fast for me, but once I settled in and felt comfortable, I started to really enjoy it. The way that you can level up as Viceroy is neat. Quite elegant and well done. I’m super impressed by that, honestly. The learning curve. OMG the learning curve. I read through the tutorial stuff and still felt lost often. This led me to abandon two profiles because of the “impossible” feeling of the game at that point. Only to learn later why I had failed so easily the first (many) times. I don’t like that you can’t replay anything (unless you fail). You create an instanced village. Then you leave that instance never to return, and create yet another instanced village. Someone did say that you create a village and leave it behind, but I didn’t really understand that they’re each instanced and you can never go back. The randomized nature of it sometimes leads to failure. I’m really not super annoyed when I fail because I suck. I mean, I suck, I don’t try to pretend otherwise. :p But when I lose because of a game mechanic, I don’t like it. I hate it. It makes me irrationally annoyed. I like to replay things. That’s how I learn. Since I’m an older gamer, it takes me more work to learn stuff. So I repeat it. But you can’t repeat anything–even if you lose and repeat it, you only get a few tries and then you’re off to a harder level… without having the wins under your belt from the first level; meaning that I haven’t learned enough yet to move on (nor gained enough levels, so it becomes an endless series of failures).
