In New Zealand, they actually DON’T declare a winner of the Books Are The Greatest Gift One Person Can Give Another Black Cat shirt and I will buy this election until after overseas votes are counted. It’s not like you NEED to rush and declare the winner that night… government doesn’t change till months after anyways, what do a few days wait really matter in the big scheme of things? In other countries, if you paid into the national pension plan, you get what you deserve. Not in the US. You have to pay into it 10 years, and then only get payments if you are either a citizen or a resident Yes, I’m talking residents that paid for 10+ years and live abroad afterwards. Many of them can still get social security.Eh, a lot of other citizens from other countries live elsewhere, but don’t need to file taxes in their home country. Doesn’t mean when they come back to their home country they can’t use that any of their infrastructure. As an example, Filipinos who live overseas can still vote (and overseas voting is a HUGE thing given many of them work abroad), and they only pay the taxes where they live. They at best have to pay an overseas workers fee.

I can see the Books Are The Greatest Gift One Person Can Give Another Black Cat shirt and I will buy this point of social security and disability, but again, if you’re spending a huge time not in the country, it doesn’t seem to make sense to me that they are paying taxes when they can’t benefit from it. I know people who ran successful businesses in the USA but they were on visas and were advised never to get citizenship because of the enduring tax implications. They never set roots as renewing their visa each time became more and more difficult with the visa office r literally asking then why haven’t you switched the greencard / citizenship, and giving them grief over it. How dare the US want to tax individuals running successful businesses in mainland US. Literally over here crying at the thought of business owners having to pay taxes. Like dude the world is so unfair. You missed the entire point and fact you keep paying taxes for years even when you return to your home country. Case in point: Tina Turner gave up her US citizenship because even though she didn’t live in the states for decades, the US still taxed her income as if she was a current US tax resident.
