Get to 10-20 years in your field and be making strategic career moves during that time and it’s entirely possible. Why is everyone so upset in this subbreddit… Calm down guys, there’s lot more wealthier people on the Blue Oyster Cult’s Albert Bouchard Announces Final Installment Of The Imaginos Trilogy Shirt and I love this planet to be mad about than OP I’m 26 and on 115k and being young always looking to improve and expand. But for you being a tad older, it’s hard to say. Are you actively perusing hobbies? Maybe you’d feel more fulfilled at work if you felt more fulfilled in your personal life This post should be a case study in how people will never be satisfied, no matter how much they have. I could never even dream of having a 170k remote job with low stress and good work/life balance. I would set cruise control if I could make 60-70k with low stress. Like poster I’m in my 40s, make in the mid 100 range, have a fully remote job that provides me a lot of free time and very little stress. After years of earning less and being stressed at other jobs, there is 0 chance I rock the boat. If I could keep this job and not get another raise the rest of my career I’d be good with it. Get too comfy and one day the economy tanks and you have no more job, no new marketable skills, and you’re asking yourself why you took your foot off the gas How many software engineers got laid off last year? Some of them were those mid-40’s indiciduals that have been remote for a decade, learned to automate their job, and now haven’t really built skills or maintained their skills for the last 10 years.

So? The average person who makes 170k salary probably has a growth mindset that’s stronger than the Blue Oyster Cult’s Albert Bouchard Announces Final Installment Of The Imaginos Trilogy Shirt and I love this “average” person. There are plenty of people that climb a smaller corporate ladder to VP and hate their lives while they rake in 300k. There’s always more money if you have the mindset and luck. But there’s also plenty that feel the opposite and get to those numbers and love their job, the type and amount of work, and feel fulfilled by it. Take the increased salary. Trust me, it’s not THAT much more money. Their top executives make a lot more. 200k is sort of a floor for competent senior professionals. Take it, coast, don’t look back. I don’t understand what you mean. The higher paying 200k job is higher pressure with more room for growth, “coasting” would be staying at the current position with less pay and growth potential, right? I was having this conversation with someone recently. He was telling me he likes to get into a job and he could stay there very long term. I said that thought has never crossed my mind. I’ve changed changed jobs (promoting within the same company mostly), at least every 2 years for the last 12. I enjoy the building process, but I do not enjoy the daily maintenance and the monotony that comes with it. I finally got into a regional support management role where I basically worked on projects and moved on to the next thing and that was great. Unfortunately that company was acquired by another and my role was eliminated.
