It’s very unfortunately true. It happened in January of this year. The hospital was fined $75,000 and they chose to close their maternity ward citing costs and declining community demand. The next closest maternity wards are nearly an hour away. It is illegal for a lawyer to reach out to injured parties to offer to take the case in all 50 states. It’s considered solicitation and they can be disbarred. However. I doubt this family would send an attorney away who offered to represent on contingency. Just saying it’s not legal to contact injured people if you’re a lawyer. It is insane how much fear doctors must put into nurses. My wife was giving birth and our nurse was amazing helping her get started. She was legit one big push from our son being born. The nurse literally said “oh my let’s stop pushing now and wait for the doctor otherwise he will get mad”. Legit had to wait 10 minute for him to pop in my wife to do one more push and our son to be born just so he wouldn’t be mad. Was pointless and my wife was just horribly uncomfortable for 10 minutes. I don’t know if doctors treat their nurses like shit or put fear in them or what but it’s nuts.
