You;ve missed the final part, which is ‘intended for use’. That’s the bit that can get OP into trouble. I can carry a hammer, which is neither made nor adapted for this purpose, however if I’m intent on going and hitting someone with it, it’s an offensive weapon. It only stands if OP intends the item to be used as a weapon, and the definition of weapon rests on the concept of injury to the person.

Firstly, “to adapt” an item means to alter its physical form somehow. You don’t “adapt” something by aiming it at a different thing. You’re describing “intention”. Secondly, a thing is not an offensive weapon merely because it could be adapted or intended to cause injury. The definition is “any article made or adapted […] or intended”. So an item is not an offensive weapon unless it actually has been made, adapted, or intended for the purpose of causing injury. An item which could be adapted or intended for that purpose, but isn’t yet, does not meet the definition of an offensive weapon. Ah ok, thanks. For clarity then, in a slightly different scenario if someone was asking if they could carry deodorant in order to spray into a person’s eyes, said deodorant could be classed as a weapon due to the intent?
